New Year, New Music
by Sabrina Liu, 2022

In 2022, William and I regrettably could not return to Tibet because the mandated quarantine for foreign visitors interfered with his job and my internship back in America. However, we made the most out of our situation by maintaining contact with the tulkus and schoolchildren on the mountains and donating plenty of gifts every two months.

My first obstacle involved trying to spread awareness about the Tibetan community’s struggles. I decided to gather quite a few of my fellow musicians and produced a full-length concert. I then sent this concert to Veterans Homes and assisted living facilities for the staff to simultaneously present it to the residents and introduce the Helping Tibet Foundation.

Although the entire process was carried out virtually due to the ongoing pandemic, my team received marvelous reviews and the Helping Tibet Foundation gained many more supporters. After I created another full-length, virtual concert, I decided to establish a new branch of the Helping Tibet Foundation — Music Media.

Originally a school club founded in 2020, I incorporated Music Media into the organization to unite young musicians and their love for music to share their talent to wider communities in support of philanthropic outreach.

Fueled by these great developments, William and I bought the children all of the items on their wishlists, which we curated after countless video chats with them and the tulkus. By the end of the summer, we managed to deliver telescopes, microscopes, experiment kits, globes, Western chess, xiangqi (Chinese chess), sternhalma (Chinese checkers), watercolor supplies, Lego sets, and of course, more toys and books.
