A Bit About SABRINA
Sabrina is a first-year at college. Deemed as a child music prodigy, she masters both the piano and flute and has received countless accolades in the past decade, including performing at Carnegie Hall at 6, 16, 17 years old and winning 1st places in national and international youth music festivals. Since the 10th grade, Sabrina has worked at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center’s Teen Line, a youth crisis hotline, as she is deeply passionate about mental health awareness and aims to double major in psychology and music. In the summers of 2021 and 2022, she interned at the University of California San Diego under Dr. Gregory Light, with whom she worked on a research study involving the memantine augmentation of cognitive training in schizophrenic patients. For sport, Sabrina has danced ballet and contemporary styles since the ripe age of 4, and like with her music, she has also won many awards along with Hollywood dance scholarships. For fun, she spends her time studying the classics; she has achieved summa cum laude (gold) in the National Latin Exam from the American and National Junior Classical Leagues every year since 2019, and placed 1st in both the Latin vocabulary and Greco-Roman mythology categories of the CA Junior Classical League’s Scram in 2020. At school, Sabrina runs her own pop culture club and writes articles for a world language newspaper.
Other Philanthropic Work
Mental math has taken up an integral part of Sabrina’s life since she could count. After years of training and taking standardized tests, she has developed a photographic memory and the skill of calculating arithmetic quicker than a calculator. At 11 years old, Sabrina became a tutor at her teacher’s school.
Every Saturday morning, Sabrina teaches mental math to students of any age. From the addition and subtraction of one digit numbers to the multiplication and division of ten digit numbers, Sabrina tutors her students for 1.5 hours on the ancient art of Chinese mental math. She ensures they clearly comprehend how to count using the mental math way, navigate the beads on the abacus, and work out problems mentally. Because of this job, Sabrina is adept at proficiently and productively working with different types of children, taking care of their needs, and supervising them. Furthermore, she extends her tutoring skills at Alpine Community Center in Los Angeles's Chinatown, where she helps underprivileged elementary students with their homework while organizing their playtime.
Since 2016, Sabrina has frequently volunteered at Sunrise Senior Living, an assisted living facility. Along with cleaning rooms, decorating the bistro for holidays or the season, and setting up the dining room, Sabrina also entertains the residents by baking cookies, making popcorn, conversing with them, and playing the piano.
